Loring Park in Winter
I’ve lived and worked within a block or two of Loring Park for decades, and thought I’d truly “seen it all”. But in January of 2024 I saw it with new eyes as I set the intention to slow down, simplify my process, and mindfully wander through the park with only my iPhone as a camera. The season and the weather of the day made for a simple color palette – all but the neutrals of white, black, grey and brown were long gone, and the eye could rest a bit, not distracted by the greens of the trees and the vivid blooms of the carefully designed and planted gardens. After walking for a half hour or so, simply looking, I set out to make no more than a dozen images, which meant I carefully chose and studied my subjects before tapping my screen to capture what I saw. I walked the short way home, feeling rested and revitalized. Sometimes it’s true that “less is more”.
