October Maples

In October of 2024  I spent a day chasing fall colors with my Canon R5 at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. It was a spectacular sunny day, and I came home with nearly 200 images captured with ICM - Intentional Camera Movement - a technique that combines long shutter speed with moving the camera during a long exposure. Out of the 200, I found one or two that I thought deserved to be processed, but the other 198 stayed on my hard drive until a wintery January day in 2025. Having learned a few new skills since I made these images, I decided to pick one or two I’d thought of as discards and take them into Lightroom and Photoshop, where I worked with contrast, color, layers and blend modes and more. And then the magic happened! Images that most photographers would delete now captured the kaleidoscope of color and energy that was my experience that sunny October day.
